AI and Libraries, seminar at University of Galway in November

Artificial Intelligence came number one in a recent survey conducted among the Irish research library community on issues that library workers felt they needed training on or to know about. In partnership with the University of Galway, CONUL Training and Development is bringing you an in-person seminar this November. This seminar will help fill the gap with AI expert guest speakers and chances to get hands-on with library-relevant AI tools and tasks.

It’s an all-day event on Thursday, 28th of November at the University of Galway.

Places are limited, if you would like to attend, please get in touch with your local CONUL T&D rep.  There is a 100 euro attendance fee for the seminar, which includes lunch.

Seminar programme: 10 – 11:00 Early bird coffee/tea + library tour    

11:00   Opening and welcome – Monica Crump, University of Galway Librarian   

11:00 – 12:00 Jake Lever (Glasgow), keynote talk     “Why do I need to read when ChatGPT will read for me”     This talk will discuss the disruption that large language models are causing to how students and researchers access information, including background on how the methods work through to how education will have to change.    

12:00 – 12:45  Web of Science AI Research Assistant demo    

12:45  – 1:45  Lunch

There will also be a series of pre-event blog posts with learner-centered activities over several days leading up to the event, these are a non-mandatory warmup! On topics including An intro to AI, AI and library marketing, metadata/cataloguing, research support and student learning.
