The CONUL Training & Development Committee is running “Neurodiversity Training for Library Managers” on Wednesday 6th November at the Royal Irish Academy.
Name of course: Neurodiversity Training for Library Managers.
The course will be presented by Andy Walsh and is pitched at those managing library staff.
Overview: This interactive workshop on managing neurodivergent staff will include content on what we mean by Neurodivergence and Neurodiversity, preferred language to use, some common ways in which neurodivergencies might present in the workplace, masking, and representation in the workplace. We will also discuss some common struggles for neurodivergent people in the workplace environment (e.g. light, noise, heat, distractions, etc) and simple ways in which they might be mitigated and managed. It will include group discussions in which attendees will be asked to consider a set of common neurodivergent attributes, together with a scenario, trying to picture what it would be like to be in that situation, and what we might do to reduce any negative impacts.
