Poetry as Commemoration has launched a new website showcasing its core activities including:
- Poetry Commissions
- Creative Writing Workshops
- Public Art Installations
Poetry as Commemoration is a Decade of Centenaries project headed up by the Irish Poetry Reading Archive at UCD Library and supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
The new website hosts resources relating to the War of Independence and Civil War, including a list of repositories, document packs for educators, a timeline of events, and a news and events blog.
A Virtual Poetry Wall contains poems inspired by the revolutionary period, including multimedia features. Poems will be added to the wall on a regular basis including a selection of writing created in workshops. Members of the public are also invited to submit their own poems or suggest work by another writer.
Pilot creative writing workshops are currently under way and members of the public will be able to book workshop places via the website throughout 2022-23.
The website, including all poems gathered and submitted, will be web archived by UCD Library as a record of this Decade of Centenaries project.
