University of Limerick’s online commemorative exhibition selected for inclusion in two key web archives.

The University of Limerick’s online commemorative exhibition, Limerick and the 1916 Rising, available at Limerick1916.ul.ie, has been identified as of significant interest and selected for inclusion in two key web archives.

‘Remembering 1916, Recording 2016’ is a project by the National Library of Ireland with the aim of capturing and preserving Irish websites and websites of Irish interest on the 100th anniversary of 1916 and the key events of that year, in particular the 1916 Rising and the Battle of the Somme. The Library of Trinity College Dublin are undertaking a similar project in collaboration with the Bodleian Library, Oxford and the British Library.

This web archive aims to collect and preserve websites that can contribute to an understanding of the causes, course, and consequences of the Easter Rising, 1916. It also aims to preserve social, cultural, political, and educational resources that will enable critical reflection on this seminal event. The inclusion of UL’s exhibition ensures that this valuable University of Limerick resource will not only be preserved for ongoing public availability, but also made available via the portals of two major cultural institutions.
